Dormaa East marks 69th Independence Day with call for unity and prosperity.
The grounds of the Dormaa East District Assembly on Friday March 6, 2026 buzzed with national pride as residents and officials gathered to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence Day. Celebrating under the national theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” the event served as both a reflection on the nation’s journey and a clarion call for local collective action.
The ceremony featured a vibrant parade and other disciplined displays by the Mansen Senior High School Cadet, followed by a formal inspection led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Osei Owusu King, and the District Police Commander.
In his keynote address, Hon. Osei Owusu King emphasized that the district’s ability to build lasting prosperity and restore hope hinges mainly on the unity of its people and that peaceful coexistence remains pivotal for development. He therefore urged residents to maintain the existing harmony without allowing political differences to create division.
Addressing issues on behalf of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Racheal Owusuwaa, the DCE conveyed her greetings and reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the district. He noted that the several infrastructure projects she pledged are currently underway and some nearing completion. He described the MP’s leadership as a clear example of the impactful role women play in governance and called on the community to support her with continues prayers and goodwill. The DCE also took a moment to acknowledge the contributions of his predecessor and pledged to work diligently to fulfill the district’s ongoing development agenda.
Representing the traditional authority, the Dormaa Akyepimhene of the Akyepim Division, Barima Tabiri Kumi Acheaw, commended both the MP and DCE for their developmental strides and praised the residents also, for their role in maintaining peace. While commending the Youth Employment Agency initiative designed to train local youth in essential skills to reduce unemployment, the chief as well vehemently appealed to the District Assembly to help address the rising challenge of drug abuse, assuring them the traditional authorities’ readiness to support curb the situation.
