Dormaa East PRCC commences operations to strengthen Local Governance And Accountability
The Dormaa East District Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC), on Tuesday February 10, 2026, convened its first meeting at the District Assembly Hall. The committee though officially established in 2025, this meeting serves as its inaugural sitting to define its operational roadmap.
As a recognized powerful statutory body ranking next to the General Assembly, the PRCC acts as a vital link between the public and the government and mandated to ensure transparency and accountability across all public agencies in the district. The membership of the PRCC include the Presiding Member (serving as Chairperson), the District Coordinating Director, the Directors of the NCCE and the Information Services Department, selected Assembly members and others.
Under the Local Governance Act 2016, the committee’s primary responsibilities include:
- Handling Complaints: Reviewing grievances against public sector staff, agencies, and the District Chief Executive.
- Mediation: Acting as a bridge between the public and the Assembly to provide peaceful resolutions to disputes.
- Investigations: Probing allegations of abuse of power or negligence and recommending rewards or sanctions based on findings.
- Public Awareness: Educating citizens on Assembly decisions to build community trust.
In his remarks, the Chairperson, Hon. Isaac Affi, outlined the committee’s authority to summon individuals for questioning and highlighted its role in projects site inspections. He added that despite the lack of an official vehicle, the committee will the Works Department to monitor key ongoing projects.
The PM urged members to maintain high professional standards and avoid compromising their duties, particularly in cases involving relatives. He further stressed that all actions must be conducted within legal boundaries, with a commitment to following up on any matters referred to the police.
The committee emphasized that public education is essential for citizens to understand their rights to seek redress.
