HIV-AIDS AWARENESS CREATION BY THE DORMAA EAST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY, ASSEMBLY MEMBERS, NANANOM QUEENMOTHERS IN COLLABORATTION WITH HEALTH WORKERS, AT DORMAA EAST
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Osei Owusu King together with some Assembly members and Queen Mothers of the Divisional Councils in the first week of November 2025, embarked on HIV-AIDS awareness creation exercise to various communities and churches within the District. The visit was aimed at sensitizing the public on the increasing prevalence of the menace in the district and to educate them on preventive measures, testing, treatment options, and the importance of reducing stigma associated with the disease. The team emphasized collective responsibility and community based actions as key strategies in addressing and controlling the spread of the disease in the district.
The DCE, expressed grave concerns over the district’s position as leading in HIV-AIDS cases in the region, describing the situation as unfortunate and worrying. He noted that such a ranking does not reflect positively on the image of the District and called for collective responsibility to address the issue. The DCE appealed to parents and guardians to take greater responsibility by closely monitoring and guiding their children. Additionally, he advised the youth to take a proactive step to protect themselves, while encouraging individuals already living with HIV to accept their condition and adhere strictly to their prescribed medication to ensure a healthy and productive life.
The Queen mother of Mansen Divisional Council, Nana Ama Tutuaa on behalf of her fellows described the situation as unfortunate but urged the public to be courageous and resolute in addressing and curbing the menace. she appealed to parents and guardians to encourage their children who are due for marriage to consider marriage, as a means of reducing multiple sexual partners that contributes to spread of the disease. Additionally, she called on parents to adequately provide the basic needs of their children, thereby empowering them to resist enticement and advances that may expose them to risky sexual behaviours.
The District HIV Campaign Coordinator, Madam Emelia, also addressed indicated that sufficient quantities of HIV medications were available to support those living with the condition. She further revealed that a significant number of individuals tested, were confirmed to be HIV positive. According to her, forty-two individuals were in the denial stage, having refused to accept their positive status. She therefore urged members of the public to know their status and take the necessary steps towards proper care and management.
