Some nineteen (19) persons living with disability (PWD) in the Dormaa East District, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 took turns to receive support from the Disability Fund of the District Common Fund.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They received various sums totaling thirty-three thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS33,000) to boost their socio-economic status.<\/p>\n

While seven (7) of the beneficiaries would invest their share of the fund into poultry of one thousand (1,000) birds into a bigger industry, the others would spend theirs on trading in materials and farming as well as health and educational needs.<\/p>\n

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman who on behalf of the Assembly and the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development did the presentation noted that government intends to sustain such support programmes to mitigate the vulnerability PWDs face in society to improve their livelihood as part of other plans.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, admonished them to desist complaining of not having jobs but rather acknowledge the support given by government and put them to worthy use to better their livelihood.<\/p>\n

The DCE advised them to be ambitious, steadfast and patient to grow their business successfully to be able to cater for their family members.\"\"<\/p>\n

He also encouraged them to save with the banks to ensure better security for their livelihood and for other benefits as well.<\/p>\n

The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Martha Gmanyami, explained that receipts and invoices covering purchases and payments of items acquired with the monies received would be given a thorough inspection and monitoring by her department to avoid misappropriation of the fund and purpose.<\/p>\n

She added that though it has not been the norm lately to give physical cash to beneficiaries, it became necessary due to the nature of the particular needs requested by this category of PWDs. And the department will follow suit to make sure the monies are put into good use to help improve their standard of living.\"\"<\/p>\n

Mr. Kennedy Asamoah who received the money to enable him replace his artificial leg and expand his shoe making business, stood on behalf of the others to thank government for ensuring the well-being of PWDs in the society and for the various opportunities given them to contribute their quota to national development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
