PROGRAMS/ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
Main programmes

  1. Adult education-mass/study groups to sensitize, inform and educate the people on government/ district assemblies programme and polices
  2. Home science extension
  3. Ensure the transfer of skills in home management, nutrition and income generation to organized women/community groups
  4. Extension services
  5. Provides specialized skills in community animation, mobilization and organization to government/non-government agencies.
  6. Youth in skill training
  7. Provision of technical and vocational skills training to youth for self-sufficiency and independence.
  8. Self-help initiatives
  9. Provision of technical advice and services like carpenters, masons to communities that initiate their own self-help projects.

FIELD ACTIVITIES OF THE UNIT

  1. Disseminations information and create two way channel between the state and the people to promote the achievement of specific national targets.
  2. Organizes sensitizations and promotes education and awareness creation among the people,
  3. Support extension programmes of government/non-government agencies.
  4. Transfer of employee skills to the youth to prevent and vagrancy among the youth.
  5. Organizes women into community-based income generation groups to promote rural income and rural economy.

MISSION STATEMENT
The unit of community development exists to facilitate the effective mobilization and efficient use of available human and material resources to improve upon the living standards of the disadvantage rural and urban communities within an effectively decentralized system of administration through adult education and extension services.

OBJECTIVES OF THE UNIT
The general objective of the unit is to raise the living standards of the people in the rural areas as well as in the urban poor by means that are immediately practical and with emphasis on voluntary effort.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Community development simply means working with people at their own level of progress and teaching them to help themselves by method which are available to them to improve their standard of living.

METHODS OF THE UNIT
The use of adult teaching techniques such as lectures, question and answers, discussions, field visit, demonstrations, storytelling ,drama, singing, films presentation etc.
