Traditional Council Appeals to DCE Over Customary Protocols for 24HR Market Project

The Asuotianohene and Dompenhene of the Dormaa Akwamu Division in the Dormaa East District, Baffour Danso Aseidu Abiam, on the 11th August,2026 appealed to local authorities in the district to ensure that the contractor in charge of the 24-hour market project receives the blessings of the traditional authority and performs all necessary customary rites before commencing work.

He made the appeal when the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Osei Owusu King, together with his delegation, paid a courtesy call on him at the Asuotiano Palace as part of the Assembly’s community engagement tour.

In his remarks, Baffour Abiam noted that although a formal sod-cutting ceremony had been performed for the project, it was equally necessary for the chiefs to officially give their approval through appropriate traditional rites. He further called on the office of the DCE to assist the Asuotiano community by renovating the local market facility to prevent flooding during the rainy season, provide a reliable water supply for the public toilet, and establish a police presence or regular patrols to enhance security in the town.

The DCE, on his part, thanked the traditional authorities for their warm reception and apologized on behalf of the contractor, noting that the oversight is likely stemmed from a lack of awareness regarding local protocols. Hon. Osei Owusu King assured the chief that the contractor would visit the palace to seek their blessings and promised that the Assembly would evaluate all other appeals within its available resources. The DCE requested of the traditional council to assist the Assembly in acquiring land for a proposed lorry station and urged them to maintain peace and unity in the area

Baffour Danso Aseidu Abiam assured the DCE of the council’s commitment to securing land for the lorry station and confirmed that peace would continue to prevail, noting that past misunderstandings within the traditional leadership had been fully resolved.
