The District Chief Executive of Dormaa East, Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman has admonished stakeholders in children’s development and the current young generation especially those, in the rural areas to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education for a sustainable democracy and nation development.

The DCE who has been advocating for STEM education in all public meetings recently, said our era of development and sustainability goes beyond the traditional science and theoretical learning, hence the need to embrace the era of intuitiveness, creativity and innovation among others which are embedded in STEM education.

Delivering the keynote address to mark the 67th Independence Day Parade at the District Capital Wamfie, the DCE, who underscored the toil and sacrifices founding fathers bore to gain Ghana’s independence and democracy; emphasized that today’s youth would have to pay huge price to be able to build a better Ghana and leave a lasting legacy for its generation.

He added that as part of effort to support interested of students in STEM education in the district, the Dormaa East District Assembly together with its Education Directorate has opened 9 STEM centers which give free tuition by volunteered teachers of which he is one.

He has therefore encouraged students to open up to STEM, be self-discipline, hard work and be committed to studies. He has also advised them to stay away from any detrimentally attitude which can deprived them of their education.

The Hon. DCE has also called on community members, Nananom and all stakeholders to do their best in every way possible to contribute to children excelling in STEM education and other fields worth encouraging.

In all 36 schools from both private and public Kindergartens, Primary, JHS and the SHS took turns alongside the two SHS cadet corps to march pass with various skills amidst varieties of displays and brass band songs to entertain the dignitaries and invited guest, making the event colourful and memorable.

Awards were given to deserving students and schools who distinguished themselves in STEM education, BECE, WASSCE and other categories.

The chairman of the occasion, Dormaa Mawerehene who doubles as the Wamfie Mpampamuhene, Barima Efrititi Siawpong Siaw, commended parent’s commitment to the education of their wards these days and girls excelling performance in the academia too.

He added that independence day should also be considered a reflecting moment on things that bind us and make us ensure patriotism.
