Good morning and welcome to this programme which we believe will contribute significantly to the effective and efficient administration and management of our District.<\/p>\n

As part of this program, start-up items will be presented to thirty-six (36) people with Disabilities across the District.\u00a0 We have already supported one hundred and nineteen (119) of them earlier this year. So far, in total we have been able to support one hundred and fifty-five (155) people out of Eight Hundred and Fifty (850) registered members.\u00a0 I would like to appeal to those who have not yet benefitted to be patient for their time will come.<\/p>\n

Nana Chairman, <\/strong><\/p>\n

Permit me to start by thanking Nananom and all stakeholders of the Assembly for your support and the confidence you have reposed in us.\u00a0 Your pieces of advice, your encouragement, your sacrifice and your deep concern in seeing Dormaa East transformed has brought us this far and will take us far by the grace of God.\u00a0 Children yet unborn shall rise and call you blessed.<\/p>\n

Hon. Deputy Regional Minister,<\/strong> this address is intended to inform our people about the state of our District taking into consideration where we are coming from, where \u00a0\u00a0we are and what we intend doing with the support of Nananom and the entire people of Dormaa East.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Nana Chairman,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Assembly which was created from the then Dormaa District by the Legislative Instrument LI 1851 (2007) by the President Kuffour Administration has its vision as \u201cTo develop the human capital and natural resources necessary to improve upon the quality of life of the people in the District through effective co-ordination of resources and activities of all stakeholders for the efficient delivery of services.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Our mission is to build a sustainable and robust economy and ensure high living standards for the inhabitants of the District through collaboration, provision of quality social services and promoting good governance through the strengthening of the District sub-structures.<\/p>\n

THE STATE OF THE ASSEMBLY AT THE TIME WE TOOK OFFICE <\/strong><\/p>\n

Nana Chairman<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we took office in May last year, our Assembly owed to the tune of GH\u00a2747,341.73 mainly to contractors and suppliers. We have been able to pay up to GH\u00a2313,584.92 which represents 42%.\u00a0 We hope to be able to pay up to 70% by the end of the year.\u00a0 There were three (3) uncompleted projects which were started by the Assembly in December, 2010.\u00a0 There was the need for a review of the initial contract sum and so far, the Wamanafo R\/C JHS which was 50% complete has fully been completed now and in use.\u00a0 The Wamfie Methodist KG which was 40% complete is now 50% complete and Peprashed CHPs Compound which was70% complete is now 98% complete.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMES<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Free SHS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Nana Chairman,<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Our District has benefitted so much from Government programmes and projects.\u00a0 Our two Senior High Schools have been strengthened by the introduction of Free SHS.\u00a0 At the moment, 372 girls and 449 boys making a total of 821 students are benefiting from Free SHS in our two Senior High Schools i.e Mansen SHS and Wamanafo Secondary Technical.<\/p>\n

    1. Planting for Food and Jobs\/Planting for Export and Rural Development <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Nana Chairman,<\/strong><\/p>\n

      In order for us to prosper and also to provide enough raw materials for the industrial transformation of our country, the Government under H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has introduced two major programs for our farmers.\u00a0 These are Planting for Food and Jobs which started last year and Planting for Export and Rural Development.<\/p>\n

      As at now, 2,245 farmers have benefited from Planting for Food and Jobs in our District. I would like to appeal to our farmers who have not yet enrolled to do so now for looking at the number of farmers in our District, this figure is on the lower side. \u00a0Farmers who grow maize, pepper, onion, tomatoes, cabbage, rice receive discount of 50% when they buy seeds and fertilizers for their farming activities.<\/p>\n

      The Agric Directorate has enough inputs for us all.\u00a0 We are collaborating with our farmers in raising 400,000cashew seedlings to support our farmers as part of the Planting for Export and Rural Development Programme.<\/p>\n

      ONE DISTRICT, ONE FACTORY (IDIF) <\/strong><\/p>\n

      Nananom, as part of the District industrialization programme by the Government of Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo, I am happy to inform you that One Factory i.e Yantab Co.Ltd. has been approved by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Two others who have expressed interest are yet to get their approvals.<\/p>\n

      The developmental challenges of our District is quite enormous. It will take hard work, volunteerism, sacrifice and active participation by all to be able to overcome them.<\/p>\n

      The Assembly has so far distributed 450 bags of cement and 72 packets of roofing sheets to support community initiated projects. Out of these, NADMO Brong Ahafo Region led by Mr. Rasheed Korlanbig supported us with 10 bags of cement and 30 packets of roofing sheets.\u00a0 See Appendix 1&2 for Distribution List.<\/p>\n

              \u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>DEEPENING DECENTRALIZATION AND LOCAL GOVERNANCE <\/strong><\/p>\n

              Hon. Deputy Regional<\/strong>, in our effort to deepen decentralization and Local Governance in our District, we undertook Familiarization Tour in our towns and villages last year.\u00a0 We had One Town Hall Meeting.\u00a0 This year we have successfully completed an Electoral Area Tour in all the 21 Electoral Areas in the District.\u00a0 About 6,008 of our people actively participated.\u00a0 We had 50 meetings in all.<\/p>\n

              Nana Chairman,<\/strong><\/p>\n

              Please permit me to thank the people of Akontanim KB\/AT, Kyeremasu AF and Mewerenfiriwuo for their outstanding performance in attendance. We shall award them.\u00a0 We have had one Town Hall Meeting this year at Akontanim and we intend having two more before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

              There shall be another Electoral Area visitation and Assembly Open Day towards the end of the year. Our people raised several concerns but those that cut across all the communities are as follows:<\/p>\n

              1. The need to have an NHIS Office in the District<\/li>\n
              2. Poor Drainage System<\/li>\n
              3. Extension of Electricity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                We have referred these to the Budget Committee for consideration in the supplementary Budget.\u00a0 However, Hon. Deputy Regional Minister,<\/strong> the estimated cost in the extension of electricity and the drainage problem is beyond the Assembly and we would like to ask for support from Central Government.<\/p>\n

                CONCLUSION <\/strong><\/p>\n

                It has not been easy over the last one year and it may not be easy right now but we know that by the grace of God through the able leadership of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo and with your support, we shall together overcome.\u00a0 Our people shall prosper and we will be able to contribute significantly to a Ghana beyond Aid.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
