The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Hon. Rachael Owusuwaa, has called on community members and more especially caregivers to ensure transparency and the protection of the economic interests of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).<\/p>\n
The MP made the call, while addressing PWDs during the disbursement of their share of the common fund for the 3rd<\/sup> quarter of 2025; at the forecourt of the district assembly on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. In all, 59 beneficiaries received a combination of direct financial support and industrial equipment worth over GH\u00a2 161, 844. The cash allocations were specifically earmarked for educational and medical expenses, while the distributed assets included deep freezers, washing machine, fufu pounding machines, and industrial mist blowers.<\/p>\n Hon. Owusuaa specifically targeted the conduct of caregivers and business associates, urging them to be truthful and fair in their dealings with PWDs. She pointed out that the vulnerability of this group often leaves them open to exploitation, which can lead to the failure of their small businesses and deeper poverty.<\/p>\n The MP emphasized that for PWDs to truly benefit from government interventions, their income and the profits from their labor must be fully accounted for and returned to them. She stressed that genuine love for the disabled must be demonstrated through honest support, ensuring that no one takes advantage of their physical or social limitations to divert benefits meant for them.<\/p>\n The District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Osei Owusu King stated that the President John Mahama led government is committed to empowering every Ghanaian. He noted that the national vision is to provide the tools needed for every citizen to succeed in their chosen field regardless of their physical abilities.<\/p>\n \u200bThe DCE advised the beneficiaries to take great care of the items received. He encouraged them to prioritize regular maintenance and repairs so that the equipment can serve them and their families for a long time.
