Its prevalence rate is more than double the regional average of 2.22% and significantly exceeds national figures. With over 2,700 residents currently living with the disease and a worrying concentration of cases in border communities, local authorities are now shifting into an emergency response mode.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe Dormaa East HIV\/AIDS Committee, sworn in on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, is chaired by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Osei Owusu King. The committee is structured as a local replica of the national body headed by His Excellency President John Mahama.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThe membership include representatives from the Traditional Authority, Christian and Muslim faiths, Civil Society and the Ghana AIDS Commission as well as experts from the Health Service and advocates for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).<\/p>\n<p>\u200bThis committee is equipped with a broad mandate to move beyond talk and into action. Their duties include conducting formal enquiries, leading aggressive grassroots advocacy, and spearheading public education. They have been empowered to review and update district bye-laws, allowing them to restrain and sanction behaviors or practices that contribute to the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bAddressing the committee at a brief but solemn inaugural ceremony, Hon. Osei Owusu King did not hide his unease regarding the district&#8217;s health status. He called the current statistics a wake-up call for every leader in the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u200b&#8221;We cannot be comfortable while our people suffer,&#8221; the DCE stated, challenging the nine members to offer a sacrificial commitment to the cause.
