The fight against illegal mining across the Dormaa East District have once more yielded positive results.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This follows the apprehension of 13 suspects who were caught in the act at Dormaa Akwamu Paamu forest, Attah Obey, supre and kyeremasu in a two days operations on Monday and Wednesday, 24th-26th October 2022.<\/div>\n

This emanated after members of the community alerted the District Assembly about illegal mining activities that were taking place in the area.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The group aged 16 to 51 was arrested during a multi-disciplinary operation organized by the Dormaa East District Assembly to conduct a disruptive joint operation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They teamed together with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Assembly members, BNI and Dormaa East District Police command.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The team pounced at the illegal mining sites and managed to arrest 13 suspects and a Cocoa farmer who’s under investigation. Others evaded the arrest by fleeing on foot in different directions and abandoning their mining equipments.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, district chief executive who was a member of the team acknowledged the concerted efforts by the joint team, and said his administration at Dormaa East District Assembly will leave no stone unturned to curb illegal mining.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe will work together with the security cluster to ensure that such trends no longer exist in the district because illegal mining impacts on our economy, our youths, water bodies and our farm lands”. And further condemned and warned to arrest farmers and land owners who give their lands out for such activities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He called on communities to cooperate with the police and report people who engaged in illegal mining.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the arrest, police confiscated illegal mining equipments such as a water pump motors, roll of pipes, shovels, motor bike, pickaxes, chrome and other equipments.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The suspects were remanded into police custody and to appear before court on 7th November,2022 on facing charges of illegal mining.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
